Changes to scoring of 2008 Emergency Management standards

According to an April 17 decision by The Joint Commission’s accreditation committee, new Emergency Management standards will not count towards Requirements for Improvement (RFI) for accreditation in 2008.

Non-compliance with new Emergency Management requirements will still be cited and must be addressed in an Evidence of Standards Compliance. The standards will not, however, be included in the total of RFIs used to determine accreditation status.

Hospitals are encouraged to use this time to develop their emergency management program and build relationship with community resources to better assist and meet the needs in heathcare.
