Security officer slashed at hospital

A security officer at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA suffered a two-inch gash to his wrist after a patient slashed him with a box cutter.
Police charged the 42-year-old patient with aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment after the April 17 incident, reported the Scranton Times-Tribune. The patient became upset with hospital staff who would not prescribe him certain drugs, the newspaper reported.
As security officers attempted to escort him out of the hospital, he allegedly lunged at a nurse. A struggle took place with security guards, who wrestled the patient to the ground. As the officers again attempted to lead him outside, he took out a box cutter and slashed one of the guards, who was taken to the emergency department for treatment. An affidavit said the patient told police that security officers hit him in the face.
