Topic: AAHAM supports one-year moratorium on RAC program

On April 22, the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) sent out a request for support for HR 4105: The Medicare Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) Program Moratorium Act of 2007. The legislation seeks to impose a one-year moratorium on the use of RACs under the Medicare Integrity Program.

“The Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program is designed to be a cost-effective means of adding resources to CMS to ensure correct payments are being made to providers and suppliers and, therefore, protect the Medicare Trust Fund. While AAHAM supports this in theory, in the demonstration project there were several issues that need to be ironed out before the program is rolled out to all the states. We are asking Congress to support a delay in this rollout to give CMS time to fix these issues,” says AAHAM in a statement.

A hearing on the bill is scheduled for this month. AAHAM encourages providers to send letters in support of HR 4105 by visiting the AAHAM Web site and signing up to use a free tool to comment to your congressperson. To read more about HR 4105, click here.
