Consumer group targets physician discipline
Published April 2008
The number of serious disciplinary actions taken against physicians has dropped 17% since 2004, according to a report from consumer group Public Citizen.
The group believes a lack of serious actions leads to less protection for patients. According to the report, South Carolina ranks lowest with the fewest number of serious actions per 1,000 physicians in the state. Maryland, Minnesota, and Wisconsin were also among the lower ranks, while Arkansas, Delaware, Vermont, and Rhode Island have improved from previous years.
