Massachusetts patients' information lost on stolen computer

A laptop containing the PHI of approximately 50 patients was stolen from Salem (MA) Hospital, the Salem News reported last week. Investigators said the Hewlett-Packard laptop taken from the cardiology department was in a locked office on the hospital campus. The police suspect an employee stole the laptop, the Salem News reported. The hospital plans to notify the affected patients and provide them with a telephone number to call to help them prevent their information from being used in a damaging way.
