UK: National Patient Safety Agency recommends list of never events

Patient Safety Monitor: Global Edition, November 25, 2008

The National Health Service’s National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) is proposing a list of “never events,” or adverse events that are serious and preventable. NPSA says the list will strengthen the country’s focus on patient safety and monitoring the occurrence of never events will help avoid them. The list includes wrong-site surgery, inpatient suicide, and retained instruments post-operation, among others. To read the full list of the proposed NPSA never events, click here.
