Canada: Toronto hospital cuts death rate in half

Scarborough Hospital, Canada's largest urban community hospital, has turned around its reputation for poor service and long waits, reports The Toronto Star.

An overhaul of hospital bylaws and administration has helped the hospital cut its mortality rate in half over the past 14 months. Scarborough also participated in a patient safety campaign and reduced its number of patient complaints, according to The Star. To reduce rates of Clostridium difficile, the hospital is also installing new sinks and hiring new cleaners.
