CMS discusses Hospital Compare Web site, observation, quality reviews, and more during recent call

CMS hosted a hospital Open Door Forum (ODF) call March 13, in which various representatives discussed a number of inpatient-related topics, including the following: Updates to the Hospital Compare Web site; Importance of testing claims with the National Provider Identifier (NPI); Quality reviews for acute care hospital claims; Corrections to the CMS Web site regarding bed limit for critical access hospitals; Clerical errors related to observation; CMS' plans to expand applicable diagnoses with the 5010 transaction system; Issuing advance beneficiary notices (ABN) for patients who refuse to leave the hospital after medically necessary services are complete
