When Jennifer Love, RN, BA, CCDS, accepted a CDI position in Texas, she’d planned the move to be closer to her family. When her husband received a promotion, however, plans changed. They decided to stay in North Carolina.

Although Love remained in the area, she found a brand-new opportunity to reenter the workforce in the long-term acute care (LTAC) space for Kindred Healthcare, one of the nation’s largest LTAC providers.

Most CDI specialists (97% according to the 2010 CDI Specialist’s Salary Survey) work in short-term acute care (STAC) facilities. So Love saw the LTAC opening as a chance to broaden her CDI horizons.

Now, an area director of CDI for Kindred in Greensboro, NC, and Richmond, VA, Love says, “It is exciting to see CDI expand out like this. I feel like I dove into the future.”
