CA community takes charge with bucket brigades
Emergency Management Alert, October 30, 2007
The author of this October 26 posting on a blog associated with the CA American Lung Association says the California community of Ramona "is relying on bucket brigades, made up of local service clubs and churches, to keep its people in drinking water. The County Water Authority is working on it, but if I were FEMA I'd try to give them some elbow grease."
Meanwhile, the Ramona Unified School District sent out a letter to parents advising them on conditions relating to water use in schools. Part of the memo says, "We anticipate reopening schools with adequate water to meet all sanitary needs. However, the Water District will not be supplying drinking water at this time. While schools will have bottled water to distribute to students, parents are asked to send students to school with bottled water on a daily basis until such time as the Water District certifies that the water from [its] system is safe to drink. Schools/classrooms will also be provided with hand sanitizers to ensure cleanliness."
