Respondents to our online survey about hospital workplace violence policies revealed an interesting rift.

While 52% of respondents said their facility has a program in place to identify employees with a history of violence, only 20% have a similar plan in place to identify patients and visitors with violent backgrounds.

In other quick results:

  • One out of three respondents has been the victim of workplace violence
  • 71% of respondents indicated that at least some staff members at their hospitals work alone at times
  • Security officers are armed with weapons at 14% of facilities

Look for full results and analysis in an upcoming issue of Healthcare Security Alert, which appears monthly in Briefings on Hospital Safety. Thank you to everyone who participated in our survey.
