Sharps injuries raise family obligations

Tiny cuts require good post-exposure decisions for the biggest reasons-our own safety, the well-being of our patients, and the health of our families. That is the theme of "A tiny cut turns into a close call," an article in the September 3 Los Angeles Times.
Dr. Linda Reid Chassiakos, a clinic director and professor at UCLA Medical School, writes about her own exposure accident when dropped, contaminated scissors pierced the skin just outside the edge of her closed-toe shoe.
At first she hesitated to do anything about it, but then she reported it, sought treatment, and received good news.
