Osama bin Laden tape expected today

Emergency Management Alert, September 11, 2007

This past week Al-jazeera's English site offered a story about how our government is studying a videotaped message purporting to be the first from Osama bin Laden for nearly three years. Communication from al-Sahab, al-Qaeda's media outlet, indicated that a new message from the the al-Qaeda leader would be released, likely today.

""We can confirm that the US government has the video and it is being analysed," an official told Reuters news agency on condition of anonymity on Friday."

The video appeared just days before the sixth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the US.

Soon after Washington announced it had the video, all the websites that usually carry statements from al-Qaeda went down and were unaccessible, in an unprecedented shutdown, according to the story, which noted "[some] suspected US hand" behind the media stoppage.

On Monday, a CNN story offered its take on the situation (displaying the usual American fascination with the color of Osama bin Laden's beard.)
