Study: Productivity loss from ill workforce greatly underestimated

Lost productivity from sick and unhealthy workers costs employers four times the amount spent on medical and pharmacy charges for their workforce, according to a study published in the July Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

The study found musculoskeletal problems, depression, and fatigue-conditions that are not always apparent-were significant causes for lost productivity costs, making it more difficult for employers to appreciate the significant link between employee health and productivity.
