Two hospitals activated their emergency plans last week after the following incidents:
- In Minneapolis, area medical facilities went on alert after the collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge, according to the Star Tribune. Emergency planners noted that while ambulances transported about 55 injured people from the scene to area hospitals, dozens more showed up on their own as "walking wounded," which is an important point to factor into your disaster plans.
- A lightning strike caused water pressure to drop at Hackensack (NJ) University Medical Center. The hospital was able to keep its ER open, and had special teams monitoring conditions in the dialysis and nutrition departments, reported The Record of Bergen County, NJ.
