Keeping tabs on CDC’s pandemic planning

Emergency Management Alert, August 6, 2007

If you're involved with emergency management at your facility, you've no doubt had an opportunity to review your hospital's pandemic plan. (If not, you might want to add it to the list.)

But every emergency plan must take into consideration the actions and reactions of other organizations, including the federal government. The CDC's Pandemic Operation Plan is an internal document that provides guidance for internal CDC operations during a pandemic, but healthcare organizations would do well to familiarize themselves with the CDC's strategies. Just don't try to use it for your own emergency plan.

"This plan is made available to outside agencies for the sole purpose of providing an understanding of the internal processes within CDC. This document in no way prescribes guidance for any entity other than CDC agencies," the Web site says.

The document was last updated in July 2007. To view it, click here.
