New preparedness tool from AHRQ

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has released a new tool to aid first responders in the event of a public health emergency: the Emergency Preparedness Atlas.
The Atlas contains state-specific maps detailing the location and size range of nursing homes and hospitals serving the population, as well as the percentage break-down of the population living in urban areas in each state. The Atlas also contains a number of case studies, showing how emergency personnel can use such information in specific settings.
According to AHRQ's Web site, the Atlas is "intended to stimulate productive discussion about how nursing homes may be used to handle a surge of patients in response to emergency situations..."
