The Joint Commission isn't pleased about hospital performance with fire protection equipment inspection and testing under standard EC.5.40.

This standard falls under the purview of the commission's life safety specialists and is a prominent part of the life safety survey.

"We're finding a lot of problems with your documentation," said George Mills, senior engineer at The Joint Commission. "If you're not managing your documentation, shame on you." Mills spoke at the American Society for Healthcare Engineering's annual conference in New Orleans earlier this month.
