The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the long-awaited guidelines last week that update and expand isolation precautions.
This is the CDC's first major revision to the guidelines, which it first released for hospitals in 1996. One of the big changes is that these new guidelines apply beyond just hospitals, now including settings such as ambulatory care, long-term care, home care and infusion services, as well as special environments such as pediatric wards, ICUs, and burn units.
