Modular units help hospital reopen

Disasters such as tornados and earthquakes can wreak terrible havoc, particularly when they damage or destroy the very facilities where victims seek refuge and treatment: hospitals. But high-tech modular units developed and distributed by FEMA may help mitigate the impact and get healthcare facilities back on their feet more quickly.

 

For the first time, says FEMA, high-tech modular units are being used to build a 70-bed, 70,000 square foot interim hospital in Georgia, after a hospital serving a large segment of the community was destroyed by a tornado. The hospital will use the interim facility while the hospital is rebuilt over the next three years.
