The Joint Commission releases final emergency management revisions
Emergency Management Alert, June 29, 2007
The Joint Commission has published final revisions to its emergency management requirements. The changes generally mirror draft standards that underwent field review earlier this year, according to information in the commission's June 2007 Perspectives newsletter.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the revisions had not been posted online. The changes go into effect on January 1, 2008.
EC.4.10 will expand and split into eight new standards. Meanwhile, a significant change under EC.4.20 will require hospitals to conduct at least one emergency management test annually that includes a scenario that escalates to the point that the local community can't help the hospital.
Watch for further information about the revisions in an upcoming issue of Briefings on Hospital Safety. A subscription is required.
