New York City health investigators have connected three cases of hepatitis C to an infected physician and are urging thousands of other potentially infected patients to be tested.
The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has mailed letters to 4,600 patients who may have been exposed to hepatitis C during outpatient procedures performed by an anesthesiologist, reported the Associated Press (AP) June 15.
Officials have not named the anesthesiologist as there is no evidence yet that she was guilty of any wrongdoing, according to the news report.
The physician, who has stopped practicing during the investigation, worked at 10 outpatient settings in Manhattan from December 1, 2003, to May 1, 2007, according to the AP.
