Healthcare employers will face more OSHA respirator fit-testing fines if members of Congress have their way.

Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), Chairperson of the House workforce protections subcommittee, called the current prohibition on annual fit testing fines for respirators used to prevent tuberculosis exposure "shameful and dangerous," reported an Inside OSHA article on, April 30.

Woolsey urged her colleagues to lift the ban established by the three previous Congresses and to update the decades-old permissible exposure limits for harmful chemicals, measures widely supported among Democrat lawmakers, according to the article.

Her comments were made during the April 24 subcommittee hearing on: "Have OSHA Standards Kept up with Workplace Hazards?"
