Emergency pandemic planning gets a boost

The Department of Health and Human Services recently awarded two contracts to expand the domestic influenza vaccine manufacturing capacity, part of an overall emergency preparedness strategy to address a potential outbreak of pandemic flu.
The financial award will allow the two companies, sanofi pasteur and MedImmune, to expand the domestic manufacturing capacity by 16% in the event of a pandemic.
