Improving crash responses

Emergency Management Alert, June 11, 2007

The CDC and the CDC Foundation have partnered with GM/OnStar to research how emergency personnel can use crash data from OnStar's Advanced Automatic Crash Notification (AACN) system to improve the emergency response to vehicular crashes.

The AACN automatically reports certain types of data during "moderate or severe front, rear, or side-impact crashes," according to the CDC's Web site. A panel of experts will research how responders in the field might use that data to quickly determine the appropriate emergency response-from dispatching the appropriate personnel and equipment to making sure victims are sent to the facility that can offer them the best care.
