The big news coming out of this week's National Fire Protection Association World Safety Congress in Boston is that The Joint Commission plans to release its long-awaited import tool for electronic plans for improvement (PFI) next month.
The tool's introduction will come on July 9 during the American Society for Healthcare Engineering's (ASHE) annual conference in New Orleans, said George Mills, senior engineer at The Joint Commission.
Mills will give a demonstration of the import program to ASHE attendees. The tool will allow facilities to take existing, Excel-based PFIs and convert them into the commission's electronic Statement of Conditions (SOC).
Hospitals have until September 1, 2007, to transfer their existing PFIs into the e-SOC. As of that date, facilities will also need to enter all newly identified PFIs electronically.
