New Jersey looks at cardiac care

In an emergency situation, both emergency personnel and the patient are eager for the best outcome-and that, in some cases, may mean access to certain facilities that offer optimal treatment. But should emergency responders bypass the first hospital just because it's not the best for that patient's particular injuries?

 

That is part of a potentially controversial discussion in New Jersey, reports The Star-Ledger, where cardiac experts are discussing the possibility of a system that would bring cardiac patients to the hospital that would provide them the optimum care-which does not necessarily mean the patient would be brought to the closest hospital.

 

Beyond the patient care issues, such a program could also impact the revenue stream of those hospitals that get bypassed-no pun intended.
