Proposed revisions available for feedback

Emergency Management Alert, May 14, 2007

The Joint Commission has posted the proposed revisions to the IC standards chapter of the ambulatory health care, critical access hospital, home care, hospital, and office-based surgery programs. The proposed changes include moving IC.6.10, which "calls for an emergency management response to an influx of infectious patients," to be incorporated into a proposed chapter on emergency management, The Joint Commission says on its Web site.

The Joint Commission is soliciting feedback from the public regarding the proposed revisions as part of the agency's Standards Improvement Initiative. Feedback will be gathered between now and June 13, 2007, and The Joint Commission expects to put the revised standards into effect in January 2009.

It is important to note that behavioral health care, long term care, and laboratory programs are not included and will undergo the review process in 2008.
