New bulletin focuses on surgical needlesticks

Let your surgical teams know about a new alert to protect them from needlesticks while using suture needles.

"Use of Blunt-Tip Suture Needles to Decrease Percutaneous Injuries to Surgical Personnel" was published last week by OSHA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

A prime recommendation is for surgical personnel to use blunt-tipped suture needles in place of sharp-tipped needles when working on muscle and fascia tissue.

Sharp-tipped suture needles are the leading source of penetrating injuries to surgical personnel, according to OSHA.
