The Joint Commission continues to review proposed revisions to EC.4.10, which covers emergency management plans in hospitals.

If the proposal is any indication of what the final revisions will be, medical centers have an extensive reworking to look forward to. The Joint Commission hasn't made any public announcement yet on when the changes will go into effect.

Safety officers with a good grasp on their facility's hazard vulnerability analysis will be ahead of the game when the final revisions are released, according to information provided by Dean Samet, CHSP, director of regulatory compliance services for Smith Seckman Reid, Inc., based in Nashville.

Samet will discuss emergency management and other hot Joint Commission developments during his keynote address at the Hospital Safety Symposium, which is presented by Briefings on Hospital Safety. The symposium takes place May 3-4 in Las Vegas.
