Reporter bagged while posing as a baby-snatcher: Not helping the situation

Emergency Management Alert, April 3, 2007

Last week, when security forces at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo confronted reporter Cecelia Lynn Coy-Jones--who was sneaking around the nursery department in scrubs, sans ID, and carrying a big red bag with a camera inside--the reporter told them she was posing as a kidnapper to test the strength of hospital security. Her investigation, she said, was prompted by a recent infant abduction case in Clovis, Texas, and another last year in Lubbock.

Security didn't care. They called the police, who told her to leave. Upon exiting, where did she go? To neighboring St. Anthony's Baptist Hospital, where she tried the same thing. There she was nabbed right away. Staffers at that facility had been warned.

Coy-Jones was arrested on suspicion of attempted aggravated kidnapping. She was released from the Potter County Jail after posting a $10,000 bond.
