A water main break last week had harsh consequences for Central Community Hospital in Elkader, IA.
The main burst in the basement of the hospital, flooding that floor with 5 feet of water and heavily damaging the building's electrical panels, chiller, and vacuum system, according to the Telegraph Herald of Dubuque, IA.
The hospital temporarily stopped accepting new inpatients, though its outpatient services remained open. As an infection control precaution, the facility brought in fresh water for handwashing and cleaning, the hospital's CEO told the Herald.
