While the political fallout is on a national scale, the fact remains that some of the publicized problems at outpatient facilities at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC, happen in all kinds of medical facilities-including mold contamination.

In February, The Washington Post published a series of reports detailing problems at the military hospital, including the following:

  • Rotted floors and ceilings
  • Rodent and cockroaches infesting soldier rooms
  • Stained carpets
  • A broken garage door that allowed unmonitored entry from the rear of a building

It's hard to imagine that the publicity generated by The Post's articles won't affect how surveyors view other hospitals they visit in the next few months.
