Cell phones delay Enterprise rescue efforts

Tales of problems with radio communications are almost routine in the days after a disaster. This year alone, in this very space, you've read about such problems in Hawaii, St. Louis, MO, and New York City.

The latest story comes out of Montgomery, Alabama. During the Enterprise tornado rescue operations, emergency workers had trouble talking to one another because they tried to use their cell phones instead of the state's $18 million emergency communications upgrade, officials say.
