If surveyors from the Joint Commission are unhappy with your Statement of Conditions (SOC), they may question the competency of the person in charge of completing the document.
Remember, EC.5.20 requires hospitals to assign responsibility for the SOC to a qualified individual based on that person's experience, the scope of the life safety assessment for the facility, and the complexity of the building involved.
Surveyors may equate poor SOC compliance with someone who doesn't have the proper background to complete the document's sections, so take some time to review your in-house policies for SOC competency, says David Hood, head of consulting services at Russell Phillips & Associates, LLC, in Rochester, NY.
Join Hood and fellow consultant Michael Crowley of Rolf Jensen & Associates as they explore the nuances of the SOC and other fire safety requirements at HCPro's live event, Life Safety Code Workshop: In-Depth Training for Joint Commission Compliance.
The next installment of this popular seminar takes place February 28 through March 1 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
