Several weeks back, we asked readers who went through a Joint Commission survey in 2006 which EC standards, if any, they received citations in.

Here are the top three cited standards, according to poll participants:

  • EC.5.20 (Life Safety Code compliance)--40% of respondents received a citation
  • EC.1.10 (establishing a safety program)--26% received a citation
  • EC.5.40 (maintaining fire protection equipment)--17% received a citation

The results closely mirror what the Joint Commission is officially reporting with citations. Look for full details of our poll in the upcoming issue of Briefings on Hospital Safety.
