A public comment period is open on a proposed regulation by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce emissions from ethylene oxide sterilizers in hospitals.

Broadly, the proposal would require all hospitals which don't control emissions of ethylene oxide to reduce those emissions by sterilizing full loads of devices when possible. The proposal discusses different regulatory approaches to this goal.

Comments on the proposal are due to the EPA by January 5.
