Practical advice, such as washing your hands and using proper protective equipment, is the focus of OSHA's Guidance Update on Protecting Employees from Avian Flu Viruses, which the agency released November 14.

The section for healthcare worker protection recommends how healthcare facilities can manage patients with avian flu symptoms, prevent transmission of the virus, and monitor workers after exposure.

On the avian flu Web page, OSHA also provides "quick cards" that summarize the recommendations for distribution to employees.
