OSHA, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and its affiliate, Joint Commission Resources, Inc., extended their two-year-old alliance for protecting healthcare employees' health and safety.
The renewal, signed on November 8, allows all sides to further educate hospitals, surveyors, and inspectors about OSHA standards and related JCAHO requirements. The work of the alliance will focus on
- emergency preparedness
- biological and airborne hazards
- ergonomics
- workplace violence
"Improvements in workplace safety protect clinical caregivers and ultimately benefit those for whom they provide care," JCAHO President Dennis O'Leary said in a statement.
