This week, OSHA issued its Guidance Update on Protecting Employees from Avian Flu Viruses, which seeks to better protect employees that are likely to become exposed to bird flu if a pandemic occurs.
Among the groups that the guidance offers advice to are healthcare workers who treat patients with suspected or known avian influenza flu and laboratory employees.
The 76-page document isn't a new regulation nor is it mandatory. OSHA has also released "quick cards" that synopsize the recommendations in the guidance and which can be posted in the hospital or handed out to staff.
