"Green" is good if cleaning products prove effective and safe

Hospitals should not be so eager to jump onto the "green cleaning" bandwagon if their actions compromise patient and worker safety, according to the American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES).

In an October 30 position statement adopted by the board of directors, "ASHES supports cleaning procedures that are friendly to the environment, but warns against blanket support of 'green cleaning' without tested research that it provides an equal or better level of care than current practices."
