Bloodborne pathogens catch practices red handed

Bloodborne pathogens violations were the most frequently cited OSHA standard during inspections of physician practices, according to inspection data released by the agency at the end of the fiscal year, September 30.

OSHA referenced bloodborne pathogens in 63% of the citations issued to businesses classified as offices and clinics of doctors of medicine. Violations of the standard comprised 77% of total initial fines.

The second most frequent violation was hazard communications with 13% of citations and 4% of fines.
