Want to start off on the right foot during your next unannounced survey? Present your surveyor with the following six items:
- General information provided to your patients. This includes any information or brochures that you give to patients telling them about your facility, the services that you provide, information about your physicians, or any other information not related to specific services.
- Education materials for patients. This is the information that you provide to your patients related to the services that they will receive (e.g., pre- and postoperative instructions or contact information).
- Weekly schedule. Providing your procedure schedule for the week will help surveyors plan their schedules and identify any block-scheduling concerns.
- Case mix from the past year. This will give the surveyor an understanding of the range of services that your facility provides.
- Annual report. Annual reports serve as a helpful introduction to your operations.
- Strategic plan. If you have a strategic plan, this will give the surveyor a good overview of your leadership structure.
