CAMH’s EM directives go beyond EC chapter

The emergency management chapter of the Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals (CAMH) is not the only section of the CAMH you should be consulting in emergency planning, says Tom Huser, who wrote the just-released third edition of Environment of Care: Guide to the JCAHO's Management Plans. Don't forget JCAHO's mandates for vaccinations. Effective January 1, 2007, all healthcare facilities must offer annual influenza vaccines to staff and licensed independent practitioners (LIPs), at the very least. The facility must provide the vaccination on-site. It must educate all staff and LIPs about the flu vaccine, and take appropriate precautions to prevent spread and contraction of the flu. Facilities should evaluate vaccination rates annually along with the reasons for not being immunized, and they must implement plans to increase the number of vaccination recipients
