New hospitals will stay in tune with Mother Nature

With healthcare construction in a boom period, hospitals are taking a serious look at how to construct more environmentally friendly buildings.
For example, a new medical center being built in Modesto, CA, by Kaiser Permanente will feature solar panels on the roof, special pavement to filter chemicals from water runoff, and toilets that conserve water, the Wall Street Journal reported on October 4.
The healthcare industry can use its purchasing power and influence to force a switch to more environmentally sensitive products, a Kaiser official told the Journal.
