Contractors and staff members are the most likely culprits behind false fire alarms in healthcare facilities.

Those are results of an online poll that our weekly e-mail newsletter Safety Connection conducted regarding the causes of false alarms. When asked who is most responsible for false alarms, responses broke down like this:

  • Contractors-35%
  • Staff-30%
  • Patients-9%
  • Visitors-9%
  • Others-17%

Construction activities and poor microwave habits tend to be activities associated with a false alarm occurring.

For more details about this survey, see the current issue of Healthcare Life Safety Compliance.
