The injectible fillers for lip augmentation, a popular procedure for those who want to look younger, are not all created equal. The issue was highlighted at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) conference in San Francisco earlier this month.

The patients and doctors need to consider which fillers are best for the results desired, says the ASPS presenters. For example, some semi-permanent fillers are best around the mouth and its borders to help reduce laugh lines and redefine the edges of the lips. When these are injected into the inner lip, a high number of complications occur, including visible lumps and clumps.
