Democrat wants CMS to mandate worker flu shot offer

OSHA Healthcare Connection, October 3, 2006

Healthcare facilities that do not provide free influenza vaccinations to workers should not participate in Medicare, says Rep. Henry Waxman (CA).

Waxman, the senior Democrat on the Government Reform Committee, made the suggestion in a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), reports FDA Week, September 22.

In addition to free vaccinations, Waxman called for the CMS to require facilities to have worker influenza education programs, and patient safety performance measurements tied to staff influenza vaccinations.
