For quick and useful information on the applications and exposure symptoms of glutaraldehyde, check out the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health's (NIOSH) new glutaraldehyde Web page.

Common in healthcare settings, glutaraldehyde is most often used to disinfect equipment that cannot be sterilized with heat. Workers exposed to it through inhalation or skin contact could develop upper and lower respiratory problems, eye irritation, and dermatitis, according to NIOSH.

The Web page includes links to glutaraldehyde-related NIOSH publications and the recently published Best Practices for the Safe Use of Glutaraldehyde in Health Care by OSHA.
