The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) announced a partnership with major infection control leadership organizations around the world in an effort to identify the best approaches for measuring compliance with hand hygiene guidelines in healthcare facilities.
"The absence of a unified approach to measuring hand hygiene performance makes it impossible to determine whether overall performance is improving, deteriorating, or staying unchanged as new strategic interventions are introduced," states a news release from JCAHO.
JCAHO and the participating organizations hope to produce an educational tool that will recommend the best practices for measuring hand hygiene compliance. This project will span 18 months.
